He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan and is a 1976 graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law. He also holds a master's degree in taxation from Wayne State University. ExpertiseMr. Schettenhelm has served as an adjunct faculty in the Masters of Taxation program at Walsh College, teaching courses in Business Valuation as well as Tax Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving. He has also served as an instructor in a combined program sponsored by the University of Michigan and Wayne State University leading to a "Certified Employee Benefit Specialist" designation. He has engineered and advised in the creation of and succession planning in numerous employee benefit issues, including the establishment of an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) that is now in its fourth generation of succession planning. He has designed business exit strategies that have led to wealth preservation and charitable funding in business sales and he has participated in numerous IRS Rulings, including the first ever-ruling involving exit strategies for qualified plans and trusts under the Pension Protection Act.
